My name is Tijn Berends. I lead the exciting double life of a climate scientist slash musician. I play what's nowadays called "modern traditional folk music": instrumental tunes that are rooted in the traditional Irish dance music, but with some exciting new spices added to the sound. My instruments of choice are the harmonica and the Irish bouzouki (I'm one of the few people in the world who can play both of them at the same time - an ability I'm modestly proud of), but I've been known to dabble with the guitar, concertina, and several other instruments that have accumulated in my house.
May I Have The Honour Of This Tune
Here's a set of tunes I wrote a few years ago, called "May I Have the Honour of This Tune?". I've attempted to record this one at least five times before, but until now I was never satisfied with the result. I'm happy with this version though, and it's a nice way to showcase the two recent additions to my family of instruments: the mandolin and the mandocello.

Here's three reels that to me taste like they are brothers. Here's a couple of nice rolling reels on my Lucky 13 harmonica by Brendan Power. Brendan made this one for me about three years ago and it's still the best harmonica I've ever played. It's got a very fast response, bright tone, both the draw and blow notes bend with ease... and it's LOUD! Oh yes, there's also a guitar. Tuned in DADGAD, for those who want to know.

Here's one of the few songs I actually feel comfortable singing. The Loch Tay Boat Song is actually a very sad song, about a man whose wife has left him for no reason that he can understand. For some reason Suzanne loves to hear me sing it - I hope it's for the sound more than for the lyrics!

Hi! How do you hear the rhythm guitar without the microphones that are picking up the bouzoki picking up the guitar? Thank you very much for the beautiful music
Thanks! For this video, I recorded the bouzouki first and the guitar later, so easy enough. When I do the rhythm guitar first, I usually wear ear buds. Or sometimes I cheat and record the bouzouki audio separately and then play "air bouzouki" in the video.
do you use click track to record?
this harmonica have the same notes that other harmonicas in G?

I've just looked at about 12 different people playing reels and they are so fast. Its like look at me, I can play without even looking at the bouzouki. Does not give anyone any idea on how to even start. You really give irish bouzouki player s a bad name.
